Andy Yen is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and researcher whose practice spans contemporary art, design, performance, curatorial strategy, and cultural studies. With over fifteen years of experience in the art scenes of Taiwan and Asia, he specializes in creating work at the intersection of visual and performing arts, interweaving artistic practice, curatorial planning, and cultural discourse. His projects explore the publicness and agency of contemporary expression, with a particular focus on the dialogue and convergence between art, society, and commerce.
Yen’s artistic style is distinctive, characterized by the dynamic use of color, form, and line to construct vivid, life-like visual languages. His signature series The Organ Without a Body centers on themes of organic systems and body politics, extending across painting, video, installation, fashion, and performance, forming an ever-evolving artistic ecosystem. His stage work Demon in the Mirror combines folklore and urban surrealism, delving into the transformation of human desire and identity.
In his curatorial practice, Yen is known for combining narrative intensity with experimental spirit. He rearticulates local cultures and contemporary Asian perspectives through visual storytelling and pop-cultural language. Notable projects include Animamix Flux (2022, Eslite Gallery), Face Me, Tag Me (2023, Great River Art), and Ghost Exchange Bureau (2024, Creative Expo Taiwan). He is the founding director of ” Freedom Men Art Apartments ” and the lead curator of the ” Taipei Illustration Fair “, where he actively builds platforms for artistic exchange, community engagement, and brand collaboration.
In recent years, he has expanded his curatorial reach through local cultural revitalization, international exhibitions, and cultural diplomacy programs supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture. His brand collaborations include art projects for UBS Switzerland, CMP Group, Eslite Spectrum, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, The Landis Hotels & Resorts, citizenM Taipei, and Hotel Day+ Group, as well as public art and festival initiatives for various municipal governments.
Yen has been selected as an artist-in-residence at the ” National Taichung Theater “, ” Swatch Art Peace Hotel “, and ” Sichuan Fine Arts Institute” . His work has been featured in international art fairs and residency programs, and he has collaborated with global institutions and cross-industry brands such as Aesop, Swatch, Rado, NIKE, Vans, Converse, and Twinings.
Through creation as language and curation as method, Andy Yen continuously responds to the pulse of contemporary culture, reimagining the role and potential of art in the future world.
